FAQ

Any difference to hire freelance skipper and professional yacht delivery company ?

Freelancers are also very good sailors. You just have to be sure who you hire. Any alcohol or drug related problems? Will someone sail solo to safe some money? What your insurance company says. Check it before you make a final decision to avoid potential problems. Read more in our blog

How long takes to move a boat?

Each boat can reach a different speed. Typically, smaller, touristic yachts sail slower, although there are numerous exceptions.
A 30ft sailboat will sail an average of 80 miles a day. A larger yacht will allow daily cruising of 100 – 120 NM. Sailing a catamaran across the Atlantic and heading trade winds you can expect to average 150 to even 200 NM (helped also by the current).
Sailing in bad weather, against the wind and current you can be at the same point after 24h.
Sailing against the wind with a tall ship will also have low daytime cruising rate, despite good speed relative to the water.

During motorboats transport we cruising at economic speed and stop to re-fuel with 1/3 of a tanks, as reserve.

Can i Track My Boat Shipping in Real-Time?

Of course. Our teams are equipped with several systems, so you can easily check the position of the boat on your phone or computer. We use two systems: Garmin InReach and SpotGen. On longer, ocean voyages, you can also call our Iridium number or contact us via WhatsApp / WeChat when Starlink is installed.

Can you help me with Polish Flag registration process?

The Polish flag is currently one of the cheapest in Europe. The procedures are quite simple and the whole process can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks (you can sail using a temporary registration). If you want a Polish flag at the stern of  your vessel – let us know. Our Polish office will take care of the registration on your behalf.

How quickly can you arrange transport for my boat?

It takes us from a few days to a few weeks to send a team. It all depends on the planned route, the time of year, the technical condition of the boat and few more factors. It takes a few days to prepare a Yacht delivery from Copenhagen to Goteborg and it usually takes a week or two to prepare a boat transport from Dubrovnik to Miami. Send us a short message or make a call to get a free quotation with a timeframe. Check also our SOS-Skipper service (start within 24h).

Do you sail all year round or only in the summer?

You mean Northern Hemisphere, right? Because when we, in the UK have a summer, it’s a wintertime in Southern Hemisphere. But let’s keep Northern waters.

Often wintertime is much better for sailing then sunny summer. For example a weather window for trans-Atlantic passage starts in November. Indian Ocean and Pacific routes also have their own crossing time.

If you mean Northern Seas as a professional yacht delivery company, we move yachts at any time of the year. However, you have to take into account that in the winter period the weather is often rough, which makes the transport of your yacht a bit more complicated and longer.

Can I assist in my yacht delivery?

Yes, we would love to sail together. You can also bring your friends. In that case, we always make the rules and the nature of the service clear. You can sail as a guest, as a member of our team, or as a skipper with the supervision and support of one of our RYA instructors (ghost-skipper). It is also important to define the frequency of your stops. Sailors are often used to standing overnight in the port or at anchor. Our teams usually sail 300-500NM and visit port for a fresh croissant, a good coffee or to refill of water and fuel. But if your wish is to combine holidays with delivery we have also a dedicate team for such expedition 🙂

Do we sign a yacht transport contract?

Yes, as a professional yacht delivery company, we rely on written contracts in which we clearly define the rights and obligations of both parties. The standard Contract is sent to you in an editable form so that you can add your own reviews.

Do you issue VAT invoices?

Yes, as a boat transport company we have to issue VAT invoices. However, most often the VAT rate is 0 or VAT is not applied (export). For tax purposes, it is most important to determine your residence and whether you are acting as an individual or a company in the contract
